RIchard Honan's Adirondack Guide Boat

TotalBoatShow is a Blog for Boaters.
We like boats – we like working on them, playing on them and the lifestyle that comes with having a boat.

Here you’ll find videos and stories to help you take care of and get more out of your boat.

We will show you how to tackle projects, what products work best for different tasks and demo new goods coming from the TotalBoat product workshop and R&D Lab.
Plus you’ll find some things that we just think are cool. Hopefully you will too!

  1. hi, (to whom it may concern)
without going into details, i have a 1952 owens flagship 30 mahogany plank boat with twin flagship marine engines and have decided to salvage the boat. is it worth time/money to reclaim the mahogany? i have ordered a tool to assist in backing out screws, but even then it will be labor intensive. is the wood re-useable?
    thanks,
    mike

    • Mike,
I would talk to some of the boat repair shops in your area to see if they have an interest in reclaimed mahogany. If the wood is solid it could be well worth the effort.

      Regards,
      Rick

  2. thanks for taking time to reply. not sure if denver has any ,but will research. if so, i may see if they want to dismantle the hull for the wood.
    have a great summer,
    mike

  4. A friend asked me what kind of paint he should use on a little fiberglass skiff. Duh, just go to Jamestown Distributors. I sent him a link to the video of the boston whaler. I’m his mailman and I just delivered a catalog to him.

  5. I’m a classical guitar builder in Gig Harbor, WA. I’ve been finishing my guitars using Pettit Captain’s Varnish but just got an email from JD about the Total Boat Lust varnish and it looks hugely tempting. In my application, I need to be able to rub out and polish the finish after it’s cured, so I have questions relating to that. Is there someone in your shop that I can discuss this with and, if so, what are his contact info? There would also be questions about adhesion over a shellac sealer, susceptibility of the finish to chipping, witness lines when a coat is breached in rub out, etc.

    Thanks,
    Bob Webster

I work for Bertram Yachts and we would love to use your photo of the new 35 Moppie on our social media channels. Would that be at all possible? If so, I would credit totalboatshow.com in the post.
Thank you so much for mentioning us in your article, too.

  9. I was wondering what is the brand name of the bedding compound Louis used to fasten the bottom and side planking on the boat that he is working on in Episode 13?
    Thanks

  11. Hi Total Boat Show,

I help operate a blog for Mystic Seaport, http://mysticseaport.org/stories and I saw you posted our video on the Rosenfeld Collection, http://www.totalboatshow.com/2014/05/08/the-power-drama-and-beauty-of-the-sea-the-rosenfeld-collection-of-photography/.
